Chepstow preview: Boyfromnowhere weighted to bounce back

David Metcalf | November 18, 2015

Boyfromnowhere can take advantage of a huge drop in the weights to get back on the winning trail in the 2m 7f handicap chase on today’s card at Chepstow (14.30).

The gelding is on a long losing run, having not scored since landing the Southern National at Fontwell two years ago off a mark of 125 when trained by Rebecca Curtis.

It’s fair to say that Boyfromnowhere has failed to shine since that success, but that has resulted in the assessor cutting him plenty of slack.

The eight-year-old is now able to race in this off a career-low rating just 109, a massive 16lbs lower than when last successful.

It gives Boyfromnowhere major claims from a handicapping perspective on the pick of his form, and the son of Old Vic now makes his debut for trainer Neil Mulholland.

Mulholland has proven over the years that he is a dab hand at rejuvenating horses that come into his care, and if the switch of stables has freshened up Boyfromnowhere he is weighted to take all the beating.

Pobbles Bay can make a splash

In the 2m 3f novices’ handicap hurdle (16.00), Pobbles Bay can cash-in on what looks a lenient mark to open his account.

The Evan Williams trained gelding shaped with stacks of promise in two runs at Ffos Las last season when looking far to green and raw to do himself justice.

After finishing an eye-catching 2 1/2 length third of 13 on debut to stable companion Clyne, Pobbles Bay posted a solid effort when third of seven behind Filatore.

The five-year-old made a mistake at the third last when holding every chance, and was also far from fluent at the final obstacle before weakening to be beaten just over seven lengths.

It was an effort which suggested there was plenty of improvement left in the locker, and the form has worked out well.

Pobbles Bay finished just 2 1/4 lengths behind the second home Global Thrill who is now rated 128, and 20 lengths in front of the fourth home Curios Carlos who has won three times since and is now rated 130.

It makes an opening handicap mark of 115 for Pobbles Bay look very exploitable, especially with Connor Ring in the saddle taking off another 3lb with his claim.
