Dick Doughtywylie well handicapped for Wolferton Handicap
The Wolferton Handicap is a competitive event over ten furlongs. The probable favourite is the unbeaten Albasharah who has won all three starts for Godolphin.
The four-year-old filly won by eight lengths at Doncaster last month and has been raised over a stone by the handicapper. She is joined in the field by Ocean War who has not been seen since trailing home in the Epsom Derby in 2011.
Irish raider Inis Meain carries top weight but has some high class form, notably when chasing home Parish Hall at the Curragh. Last time out he won by four and a half lengths in listed company at Limerick.
Sheikhzayedroad will be a popular choice after winning impressively at the Epsom Derby meeting. He was well off the pace that day but recorded some interesting fractions to run out a convincing winner. The firmer ground might be a slight concern for his supporters.
Chapter Seven was among the ante-post favourites for the Royal Hunt Cup but has been diverted to this race over two furlongs further. His last race can be forgotten as he was employed as a pacemaker for Dunedin at Epsom and he had previously put in some promising efforts.
John Gosden’s Dick Doughtywylie is an interesting contender. His form figures are not particularly inspiring but his last two starts were Group 3 events at Chester and Sandown. The stable got off the mark for the week with Remote on Thursday and Space Ship finished a fine second.
Dick Doughtywylie was not disgraced when only six lengths behind the subsequent Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner Al Kazeem and then finished fifth in a muddling race at Chester. He did not handle the course that well and this should be much more to his liking.
Sir Michael Stoute also got off the mark for the meeting on Thursday when he won the Gold Cup and he saddles Labarinto in this. His form is a bit in-and-out and the stable’s runners often improve for their first outing.
Two For Two makes a quick reappearance after finishing in midfield in the Hunt Cup whilst Bana Wu is not out of it off bottom weight. Rewarded had Mobaco back in fifth when winning a slowly run affair at Goodwood last time and is the mount of Kirsty Milczarek. Genzy and Fattsota are others with each-way claims in an extremely open race.
