Same Difference to land Ascot feature for Twiston-Davies

When Roberto Goldback scored an impressive success in last season’s United House Gold Cup it probably came as a pleasant surprise to Nicky Henderson who had recently acquired the horse. Unfortunately the gelding was unable to add to that success in five subsequent starts culminating in being pulled up in the Grand National.

Roberto Goldback could give 5lb claimer Nico de Boinville a good ride on Saturday but Barry Geraghty has chosen to partner Topham winner Triolo D’Alene. The French-bred six-year-old has already shown himself to be in good heart this season with a victory at Huntingdon and is now racing off an 8lbs higher mark.

This represents his toughest task to date but he did win at Ascot as a novice and showed what a good jumper he is when beating seasoned handicappers at Aintree. Recent winners Bouggler and Twirling Magnet will be hoping to make their fitness count but there are some very useful handicappers making their seasonal reappearance.

Opening Batsman won the Racing Plus Chase at Kempton last year and Same Difference won the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival. The latter went on to finish a game runner-up in the Bet365 Chase at Sandown and looks the ideal type to pick up a top staying chase this season.

Ryan Hatch takes off a valuable 7lbs and he looks to have an outstanding chance if he is fit enough to do himself justice. Bless The Wings is another with plenty of potential but may just need this first outing since being pulled up in March.

Wyck Hill was bought by JP McManus as a possible Grand National runner last year but picked up an injury in his prep race and is another that will improve for the run.

The William Hill Handicap Hurdle at 2.55 looks wide open but the bottom weight Rayvin Black could be the one to be on. Although 7lbs out of the weights, that is reduced by his jockey’s 5lb claim and he had any amount in hand when scoring at Exeter recently.
