Doncaster St Leger Festival: Nemoralia, Salsabeel and Yalta among Friday tips

David Metcalf | September 8, 2016

Nemoralia to rule in Sceptre Stakes

Nemoralia scored in terrific style last time out and looks a worthy 4/5 odds-on favourite to follow-up in the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes which gets proceedings underway on day three of Doncaster’s St Leger Festival (13.55).

The Jeremy Noseda trained filly has improved at a rate of knots since landing a nursery at this meeting 12 months ago and comes into the race having won two of her four starts this season.

After landing a Listed contest at York, Nemoralia ran a cracker when runner-up to Qemah in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot before being far from disgraced when fourth in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly.

Nemoralia

Nemoralia odds look well worth taking among Sceptre Stakes bets and Doncaster tips for September 9th.

The daughter of More Than Ready then capitalised on an ease in grade to get back to winning ways in a Group 3 contest at York three weeks ago.

After being held-up off the pace in the hands of a confident Jamie Spencer, Nemoralia made smooth headway two from home to take up the running inside the last and quicken clear to beat So Beloved by 1 3/4 lengths.

It was a devastating performance and a repeat should be more than good enough to see her land this before going on to hopefully gain a deserved success at the highest level.

Yalta fancied to bounce back in Flying Childers

Yalta disappointed last time out, but looks decent value to bounce back and land the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes (14.30).

The Mark Johnston trained juvenile was never travelling well before being heavily eased and finishing last of 19 to Mecca’s Angel in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York.

Glorious Goodwood day 2

Yalta won at Glorious Goodwood, so will be hoping to do likewise at the St Leger Festival.

However, that was a really hot contest against older and seasoned top class sprinters and Yalta will find things much easier back against his own age group.

Prior to that below par effort, the two-year-old had won three of his five starts and put in a sensational front running display in the last of those when landing the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood by three lengths.

Yalta blitzed his rivals to register a course record time for a two-year-old and a reproduction of that run would make him a tough nut to crack.

Salsabeel looks just the ticket in Flying Scotsman

Salsabeel created a huge impression when scoring on debut and can take the step up into Listed company in his stride to land the Flying Scotsman Stakes (16.15).

The colt got up late to beat Novoman by 1/2 a length in an 11-runner maiden at Yarmouth but was value for much more than the winning margin.

Secret_Brief

After showing plenty of pace to track the leaders, Salsabeel showed distinct signs of greenness before quickening up smartly between horses to be well on top at the finish.

It was a most taking display and one which suggested the beautifully bred son of Exceed And Excel was a top notch prospect who needed keeping firmly onside.

The runner-up and third home have also come out and won since to give the form a boost and with further improvement assured Salsabeel can take this en route to even better things.
