Fontwell preview: Zero Visibility has crystal clear claims

David Metcalf | December 8, 2015

Zero Visibility scored in terrific style last time out and looks weighted to take all the beating in the 2m 3f handicap chase on today’s card at Fontwell (13.10).

The gelding was a point winner in Ireland who has won three times over hurdles since joining trainer Alexandra Dunn.

In the last of those successes at Plumpton last month, Zero Visibility looked better than ever when making all and staying on strongly to score easily by six lengths off a mark of 79.

That was an effort which suggested there could be better to come, and the eight-year-old now has just his second start over fences and is able to race off an unchanged mark.

It makes Zero Visibility potentially thrown-in at the weights, especially as he shaped with bags of promise on his first start over the larger obstacles when third to Bobbit’s Way at Bangor back in February off 1lb higher.

The son of Classic Cliche also has the soft underfoot conditions that he relishes, and with Adam Wedge in the saddle this looks a golden opportunity for Zero Visibility to open his chasing account.

Alternatif an ace shout for 14:10

In the 3m 1f handicap chase (14.10), Alternatif can defy top weight to land the spoils.

The gelding had some useful form over hurdles when trained in France, and looked one to keep onside when making a winning debut for trainer David Pipe in a competitive handicap hurdle at Kempton 12 months ago when beating Theinval by a neck.

Alternatif went on to finish runner-up on his next four starts, and shaped with bags of promise on chasing debut at Cheltenham last month when third of 12 to Knock House off a mark of 133.

After being held-up well off the pace, the five-year-old made stealthy headway three from home before keeping on well to go down by 5 1/4 lengths.

It was a most taking perforamnce in a hot contest for the grade, and one which suggested Alternatif would have little difficulty winning a class 3 contest of this nature off his current mark of 133.
