Glorious Goodwood (15.10): Toormore to take Lennox Stakes

Toormore can take advantage of a drop in grade to get back to winning ways in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood (15.10).

The Richard Hannon trained colt was a top class juvenile when unbeaten in three starts, and those successes included the Group 2 Vintage Stakes over course and distance.

Toormore went on to land the Craven Stakes on his seasonal reappearance last year before finishing a highly creditable seventh of 15 to Night Of Thunder in the 2000 Guineas.

The son of Arakan also ran well when a neck runner-up to Esq Que Love in this contest 12 months ago, and rounded off the campaign with a fine one length third to Charm Spirit in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot.

Toormore has looked as good as ever in two runs this season, finishing a neck runner up in the Group 1 Lockinge Strakes and a solid fourth to French ace Solow in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Both those races were over 1m, and Toormore will appreciate the drop back to 7f over which he has won two of his three starts.

This also represents drop in class, and with James Doyle in the saddle Toormore looks the one to beat.

Royal Ascot day 2

Dutch Connection has a progressive profile and rates a big danger.

The Charlie Hills trained colt ran better than his finishing position suggests when seventh of 18 to Gleneagles in the 2000 Guineas before landing the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Dutch Connection then posted a cracking effort last time out in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly, travelling strongly throughout and looking all over the winner until collared close home and beaten just 1/2 a length by Territories.

That is strong form, and another plus is that Dutch Connection had winning form over course and distance as a juvenile.

Coral’s best bet: Toormore is a real tour de force, so back him to land the Lennox Stakes.
