Goodwood preview: Celebration Mile (15.45)
Cable Bay looks decent value to cause an upset and beat red-hot favourite Kodi Bear in the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood (15.45).
The Charlie Hills trained colt has posted a series of solid effort this season, including when a cracking fast finishing 1 3/4 length fifth of 15 to Night Of Thunder in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.
Cable Bay went on to land a Group 3 contest at Haydock in good style, and has since run well to make the frame in two Group 2 affairs.
In the last of those over 7f at Newbury, the four-year-old was give plenty to do before running on strongly to be beaten just two lengths into fourth behind Adaay.
Given how the race panned out it was an excellent run, and one which suggested Cable Bay was well worth another crack at 1m.
Although the son of Invincible Spirit is yet to win in three attempts over it, Cable Bay’s run in the Lockinge shows that it poses no problems.
Cable Bay is also versatile as regards ground, and could well get the race run to suit his come-from-behind tactics.
Kodi Bear is rated 4lb superior to Cable Bay and is odds-on to land the spoils.
The Clive Cox trained colt had some smart form as a juvenile and has won two of his three starts this season.
Kodi Bear put in an impressive front running performance in the last of those when slamming Dark Emerald by 4 1/2 lengths in a Group 3 contest at Salisbury, and the form of that race reads well in the context of this contest.
However, the son of Kodiac is a really headstrong sort who has a tendency to race very keenly and I feel that he could set the race up for a closer if going off too hard.
For that reason I am keen to take on Kodi Bear, and Cable Bay has the right attributes to lower his colours.
Coral’s top tip: Cable Bay looks decent value to put his turn of pace to good use and mow down Kodi Bear
