Joyeuse bids to revive memories of Frankel in Albany Stakes
Riposte provided Lady Cecil with an emotional victory on Wednesday in the Frankel colours. The wife of the late Sir Henry came close with Tiger Cliff on the opening day and has a major chance with Joyeuse in the Albany Stakes.
Being a half-sister to the great Frankel, expectations were high when she made her racecourse debut at Lingfield last month. Joyeuse was held up behind the leaders before quickening clear inside the final furlong to book her pace in the Albany Stakes.
Favourite for the race is Richard Fahey’s Naas winner Sandiva who followed a victory at Nottingham by winning a listed race in Ireland. She beat Heart Focus by two lengths and is fancied to confirm the form with Frankie Dettori booked to ride.
Aidan O’Brien’s Wonderfully scraped home by a short head on her debut but the daughter of Galileo is capable of plenty of improvement. She has a very similar profile to Godolphin’s Wedding Ring, winner by a neck at Newmarket first time out.
Richard Hannon is not enjoying the best of meetings and has two runners here. Richard Hughes has elected to ride Midnite Angel. The grey romped to a seven-length victory at Windsor and is preferred to Kempton winner Suite.
The colours of Qatar Racing have been prominent this week and enjoyed their first Royal success in an earlier two-year-old event. They have two live chances with Kiyoshi, trained by Charlie Hills, and Catterick winner Race Hunter.
Kiyoshi won well at Goodwood last time and beat a fair sort in Ihtimal. That horse chased home Wedding Ring next time out and the should be little between the pair.
Rasheeda is another unbeaten filly who won on her debut at Doncaster whilst Princess Noor takes a big step up in class after a win at Kempton on the all-weather. Red Lady and Lucky Kristale are others to consider and a hugely competitive race.
