Atlantis Crossing weighted to reverse form with Light From Mars
The Class 3 7f handicap feature race at Kempton at 4:20 will see familiar foes Light From Mars and Atlantis Crossing do battle for the third time this year. The score is currently one apiece, with the former – in receipt of 5lbs from his rival – scoring the most recent of those victories by a length over today’s course and distance.
In today’s meeting Atlantis Crossing looks weighted to turn the tables given he must concede just 1lb to Ronald Harris’ gelding. The two-time course winner had beaten Light From Mars by a length when giving him 2lb in their first meeting.
The lightly-raced Ortac Rock looks the potential fly in the ointment on his seasonal bow for the all-powerful Richard Hannon yard. A winner of two of his three starts as a juvenile, market support this morning suggest there is a certain confidence behind him on the occasion of his first run since 2011.
Furthermore Hannon’s team are in good nick at present, with the Marlborough handler sending out three winners and three minor medalists from 12 runners in the past fortnight.
Elsewhere on a typically tricky Kemptonian card Red Ramesses bids to notch a hat-trick having shed his maiden tag at the twelfth attempt two races back. John Best’s four-year-old overcame an outside draw to win at Lingfield last time out and has strong claims here despite a 5lb rise for that success.
