Kempton preview: Flamborough Breeze can blow away rivals

Flamborough Breeze has become dangerously well-treated and, with crack young jockey Tom Marquand in the saddle, can take advantage to score an overdue success in the 1m apprentices’ handicap on this evening’s card at Kempton (18.20).

The Ed Vaughan trained mare was in terrific form in February 2013 when landing a hat-trick of successes over course and distance.

In the last of those, the six-year-old only had to be pushed out to score readily by 1 1/4 lengths off a mark of 66.

Flamborough Breeze has since run well to be placed on numerous occasions off marks as high as 74, but is now able to race off just 60.

That is 6lb lower than when last successful and the lowest rating Flamborough Breeze has run off in over two years.

It gives the daughter of Ad Valorem a huge shout at the weights on the pick of her form, especially as she now gets the services of Marquand in the saddle, who is terrific value for his 3lb claim and a jockey to have firmly onside in this type of event.

Connections are also now refitting Flamborough Breeze with cheekpieces and the tongue-tie, and in a race which should be run to suit this looks a good opportunity for her to get back into the winners’ enclosure.

In the 2m handicap that closes proceedings (21.20), Albonny looks weighted to further enhance his excellent record at the track.

The Timothy Jarvis trained gelding is a three-time course and distance winner, and in the last of those successes ran on strongly to easily beat Dumbfounded by 2 1/4 lengths off a mark of 67.

Albonny backed that up with a solid third at Haydock off 71 and is now able to race off a rating of just 65.

That is 2lb lower than when last successful, and the six-year-old hinted that his time was near when a close-up fourth over course and distance last month.

If building on that, Albonny is going to be tough to beat in the hands of pronsing 5lb claimer Jordan Vaughan at a venue which clearly brings out the best in him.
