Kempton Preview: Golden chance for Good Authority

Good Authority has been given a massive chance by the handicapper and looks decent value to take advantage and score an overdue success in the 9.10 at Kempton this evening now dropped in class.

The gelding is a course and distance winner whose last success came in a class 4 handicap at Goodwood in June 2013 off a mark of 85 when trained by Karen George.

The seven-year-old went on to finish a decent seventh of 17 to Magic City in a class 3 contest at the same venue off 88, and now gets into this class 5 affair off just 74.

That is 11lb below his last winning mark and gives Good Authority major claims from a handicapping perspective.

The son of Chineur has alos been in good form of late, finishing in the frame in three of his last four starts.

They include a nose second to Galation over course and distance in this grade and a solid third to Compton in a higher grade class 4 affair, again over CD.

Good Authority also ran well to finish runner-up in another class 4 affair on the turf at Chepstow on his penultimate start, and was far from disgraced on his first start for trainer Victor Dartnall last time out when eighth of 17 in a competitive class 4 contest at Ascot.

The drop back down to class 5 company is a big plus, and he is now reunited with 7lb claimer Kieran Shoemark who has steered him into the frame on his last two visits to the track.

Taking his claim into account Good Authority is dangerously well-treated and the one they all have to beat.

Fair Share looked a horse to keep onside when scoring in good style on seasonal reappearance at the track 15 days ago and is strongly fancied to follow-up in the 1m 4f handicap (8.40).

The Lady Cecil trained colt looked in need of the race after 315 days on the sidelines but produced a good turn of foot from off the pace to beat Pantella with more in hand than the 3/4 of a length winning margin suggests.
That race was over 1m 3f and the son of Rail Link looks sure to appreciate the extra furlong this evening.

Fair Share is also sure to come on a bundle for that outing, and an opening mark of 85 could well be on the lenient side given that he remains totally unexposed after just two starts.
