Kempton preview: Grendisar to shine again in Floodlit Stakes

David Metcalf | November 4, 2015

Grendisar runs Kempton well and looks to hold leading claims of landing back-to-back successes in the Listed 1m 4f Floodlit Stakes on this evening’s card at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue (19.10).

The Marco Botti trained five-year-old held off Fire Fighting by by a neck to win last year’s renewal, and went on to land two more Listed successes at Lingfield as part of the All-Weather Championships.

Grendisar also posted a cracking effort when runner-up to Tryster in the Group 3 Winter Derby at Lingfield back in March, before finishing a fine third to the same rival in the £200k Coral Easter Classic on Good Friday.

That is top class form in the context of this contest, and although Grendisar has not been at his best in his latest two starts things haven’t gone to plan.

After finishing fifth to Tha’ir in the Group 2 Anatolia Trophy at Veliefendi in Turkey, Grendisar hated the kick-back when to Fire Fighting in a conditions race at Chelmsford City.

The return to this venue, where he has won three times over course and distance, is sure to suit Grendisar and he can once again get the better of Fire Fighting to land the spoils.

Movie Set for success

Movie Set created a good impression when scoring on his debut and looks weighted to follow-up in the 1m 4f handicap (19.40).

The Saeed bin Suroor trained gelding showed plenty of pace to track the leader before taking up the running two from home and staying on strongly to readily beat Prendergast Hill by 1 1/4 lengths at Ascot.

It was a most taking performance, and the runner-up is now rated 85 having come out an won since.

That gives the form a solid look and suggests that the assessor has taken a huge chance in allotting Movie Set and opening handicap mark of just 86.

The son of Dubawi is certainly bred to be better than it, and another plus is that Movie Set hails from a yard that does well with its runners at the track and is in good form at present.
