Kempton tips: Fly and Lord George a double chance for in-form Fanshawe

David Metcalf | September 2, 2016

Friday night’s card is just brimming with top Kempton tips, including a James Fanshawe double. Here, Coral horse racing experts give their best bets for the evening meeting on September 2…

Fly can spark-off James Fanshawe double at Kempton

In-form trainer James Fanshawe does well with his runners at Kempton, and looks to hold leading claims of landing a double on this evening’s card at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue courtesy of Fly and Lord George.

The Newmarket handler has a strike rate of just under 21 per cent at the track in the past 12 months and has saddled three winners and four runners-up from his last 12 runners.

A James Fanshawe double of Fly and Lord George looks on the card as Coral give Kempton tips for September 2.

Fly runs in the 1m apprentice handicap that gets proceedings underway (17:25) and shaped with bags of promise on return to action when third over course and distance last month.

The four-year-old filly was unsuited by the slow early gallop before keeping on nicely under tender handling to be beaten 1 3/4 lengths by Tournament.

She is entitled to strip much fitter for that run, her first in 287 days, and now meets the winner on 5lb better terms.

That should be more than enough for Fly to turn the tables and she had previously won all three starts last season, two of which came over course and distance, in the manner of a handicapper that needed keeping firmly onside.

George can Lord it over rivals

The second half of this James Fanshawe double and another of our Kempton tips is Lord George – a lightly-raced and progressive gelding who looks nicely treated on the pick of his form in the 1m 3f handicap (20:00).

The three-year-old has won two of his five starts and was value for more than the short-head winning margin in the last of those at Yarmouth when idling once hitting the front.

Lord George has since gone on to finish a fine 3 1/4 length fourth to Gold Faith at Newmarket and the second home in that contest has gone on to land a competitive class 2 affair to be rated 96.

That gives the form a solid look in the context of this class 3 contest and suggests that Lord George should be more than capable of winning races off his current mark of 89.
