Kirby Calls It: All Weather champion previews Lingfield
2:20 – I ride Catalinas Diamond for Pat Murphy. She’s dropped down to a winning mark and if she put her best foot forward, she definitely has a chance. I’ve won on her and she’s a filly that needs to be held up and things will need to fall right for her. She drawn well in two and has won at the track on four occasions. She actually won a division of this race last year but I’d be more hopeful than confident. Waabel is the chief danger.
2:55 – I ride Holiday Magic for Mr Appleby in this. There’s a chance he could be high enough in the weights. He was upped in class for his last run and ran respectable. He’s down a class in this race and the step back up to a mile should be in his favour as he’s won over this trip in the past. I won on him in early December. He likes to be prominent, has a good draw and if he gets the run of the race, it could take some beating. He’s probably my best chance of a winner tomorrow. As for dangers perhaps Spiritual Star could have a say and Verse Of Love could run well at a big price.
3:30 – I was due to ride Pinzolo but he doesn’t run now. I can’t do the weight on Gold Trail but he’s a horse I really like. He’s big and strong and very genuine. I’ve won twice on him this season and I don’t think we’ve got to the bottom of him yet. Having the assistance of Ryan Moore is a big help. He’s stepping up in trip to two miles for the first time but I think if ever he’s going to stay that trip he will happen around Lingfield. If he does stay, I think he wins. John Reel would have to enter calculations. He was beaten favourite when third behind Gold Trail last time out and maybe the step up in trip might suit him. Masterpaver ran well on his last start at Lingfield. On official ratings Gold Trail should win and I think he will.
