Leicester preview: Outlaw Torn weighted to follow-up

Outlaw Torn bounced back to form to score in good style last time out, and can defy a 6lb penalty to follow-up in the 7f handicap on today’s eight-race card at Leicester (16.25).

The Richard Guest trained gelding took advantage of a drop in the weights to come from off the pace and beat Red Paladin by 3/4 of a length in a class 5 contest over a mile at Redcar six days ago.

Outlaw Torn scored with more in hand than the winning margin suggests, and it’s no surprise to see connections turn him out quickly under a penalty before the assessor has his say.

The six-year-old is able to race in this lower grade class 6 affair off a mark of 58, and that is still 4lb lower than when the son of Iffraaj scored at Musselburgh 12 months ago.

It makes Outlaw Torn’s current rating look very exploitable, and he also has the services in the saddle once again of Rob Hornby who steered him to success last time out and is good value for his 5lb claim.

With underfoot conditions fine, and the drop back to 7f holding no fears, Outlaw Torn is going to be tough to beat.

It’s All A Game is back down below his last winning mark and can provide Guest and Hornby with a quick-fire double in the other 7f handicap on the card (16.55).

The gelding was a four-time winner last year, with his last success on the turf coming at Newcastle off a mark of 57.

It’s All A Game bolted up by bolted up by 3 1/4 lengths, and went on to finish a solid third off 63 next time up.

The four-year-old is now able to race off just 54, 3lb lower than when last victorious, and that gives him every chance from a handicapping perspective.

Although well beaten on seasonal reappearance at Newcastle last month, that was It’s All A Game’s first run for 151 days and should have blow away the cobwebs and put the son of Sleeping Indian spot on for this.
