Leicester preview: Solid Justice gets the verdict

Solid Justice shaped as if returning to form last time out and can take advantage of a drop in the weights to land the 1m 4f handicap on today’s card at Leicester (17.00).

The Jason Ward trained gelding landed an amateur riders’ contest at Redcar back in October off a mark of 64, but after being hit with a 4lb rise for that success has failed to trouble the judged in six subsequent starts.

However, the four-year-old’s mark has fallen as a result and Solid Justice is now able to race off 63 having caught the eye when finishing fourth in a class 5 contest at Beverley three weeks ago.

After half rearing at the start, Solid Justice was held-up off the pace until making good late headway to be nearest at the finish and beaten four lengths.

It was a big step back in the right direction, and connections are now fitting Solid Justice with the visor for the first time.

If the new headgear has the desired effect, there is little doubt that Solid Justice is weighted to go in again and the son of Rock Of Gibraltar also has the services of Jack Garrity in the saddle who is good value for his 3lb claim.

Another plus is that Solid Justice now drops back down into class 6 company, and everything looks in place for him to get back to winning ways.

Gleneely Girl has run well to finish runner-up in her last two starts and can go one better to gain a deserved success in the 1m handicap (15.25) now partnered by William Buick for the first time.

The Rae Guest trained filly has not scored since landing a maiden at Carlisle 12 months ago, but has gradually returned to form and signalled that her time was near when going down by just a neck to Thankstomonty at Beverley 13 days ago.

Gleneely Girl closed all the way to the line and being brought with a sustained run from off the pace, and a repeat of that effort is going to make the daughter of Intense Focus hard to beat off just 1lb higher.

As a three-year-old Gleneely Girl also receives a handy weight-for-age allowance from all her rivals, and the booking of Buick suggests connections mean business.
