Leicester preview. Sweet on the chances of Double Chocolate

David Metcalf | November 16, 2015

Double Chocolate scored in terrific style last time out, and can make light of a rise in the weights to follow up in the 2m 5f handicap chase at Leicester today (13.45).

The gelding bounced back to his best on his first start for trainer Martin Keighley when beating Alta Rock by four lengths at Uttoxeter off a mark of 78.

Double Chocolate travelled strongly throughout and pulled clear from the third last to win with far more in hand than the winning margin suggests.

Although now 9lb higher in the weights, the 12-year-old remains very well-treated on his back form.

Double Chocolate’s previous win had come off a mark of 113, so his current rating of 87 looks very exploitable.

This also doesn’t look the strongest of class 4 contests, and the son of Doubletour looks the type who could rattle up a few successes before the handicapper has his say now that he has got his head back in front.

Take the Mica in 2m handicap hurdle

In the 2m handicap hurdle (14.15), Mica Mika looks potentially thrown-in at the weights and the one to beat.

The Richard Fahey trained gelding has had just two starts over the obstacles, finishing a solid second to the now 127-rated Kie on his debut at Kelso, before going on to comfortably land a juvenile hurdle at Wetherby back in December 2011 when beating Cadore by 2 1/2 lengths.

Mica Mika has since enjoyed plenty of success on the level, winning three times this season to be rated 90 at his peak.

The seven-year-old is able to race off just 111 in this, and that makes Mica Mike look dangerously well-treated as flat horses can generally be expected to be 35lb higher over the obstacles.

Mica Mika’s run behind Kie also reads extremely well in the context of this contest, and the son of Needwood Blade remains unexposed over the jumps and open to plenty more progression.
