Lingfield Preview: Empire ready to rule
Glorious Empire created a big impression when scoring on his debut and looks a worthy favourite to maintain his unbeaten record in the feature 7f handicap at 4.00.
Ed Walker’s gelding was sent off the well-backed 11/4 favourite for a 6f contest at Kempton and his supporters never had an anxious moment.
After tracking the leaders, the son of Holy Roman Emporer made smooth headway two from home and kept on strongly inside the final furlong to win going away by 1 1/2 lengths from Nova Champ.
Both the runner-up, and the third home Green Music, have gone on to score since and the form has a strong look to it.
The selection beat them with plenty of authority, and looks a highly promising sort who has plenty more to offer.
He gets into this off an opening mark of 72, and judge by the manner of his success at Kempton that may well be on the lenient side.
In the 7f handicap at 3.30 there has been plenty of money about for Double Czech and it’s easy to see why.
The son of Bushranger had just five runs for Amanda Perrett last season, and shaped with plenty of promise on several occasions before putting in an eye-catching run on his final start at Chepstow over a mile.
He showed plenty of pace that day to race up behind the leaders and kept on nicely to be beaten 3 1/4 lengths by Rising Dawn.
It was a run which left the impression that he was capable of winning races, and he now gets into this off what looks a workable mark of 68 on his first start for trainer Pat Chammings.
The drop back to 7f also looks sure to suit, and the booking of the highly talented Oisin Murphy, who is superb value for his 3lb claim, catches the eye and suggests that connections mean business.
Another very interesting and potentially exciting runner on the card is Grasped who makes her handicap debut in the 5.00.
Lady Cecil’s filly overcame greenness to make a winning debut over course and distance back in December, where after dwelling at the start and getting outpaced she stayed on strongly once the penny dropped to score by a head.
The well-bred daughter of Zamindar looks sure to come on a ton for that experience and has the potential to be far better than her opening handicap mark of 72.
