Lingfield Preview: Fashion ready to turn on the style
Fashion Line looks on a workable mark now returned to her favoured polytrack surface in the 1m handicap at Lingfield today (3.40).
The Michael Bell trained filly was in good form in the early part of the year, landing back-to-back contests Wolverhampton before finishing fourth in two competitive class 2 contests.
In the first of those, the daughter of Cape Cross ran on strongly to be beaten just 1 1/4 lengths behind Whispering Warrior in the Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton.
The four-year-old then ran very well to be beaten 4 3/4 lengths by Living The Life in a conditions contest over 7f at this venue when given too much to do, and looks well-treated off a mark of 88 in this class 3 contest judged on that effort.
Fashion Line has since failed to match that level of form in three runs on the turf, but better can be expected now returned to the all-weather surface.
Majestic Song could well have got in lightly on her handicap debut in the 6f contest (4.10).
The James Toller trained filly has shaped with plenty of promise in three maiden runs, despite looking from from the finished article.
The well-bred daughter of Royal Applause ran really well on debut last year when third to Much Promise at Kempton, and was a big eye-catcher on seasonal reappearance when sixth of 10 to Penny Drops over course and distance.
Majestic Song lost a huge amount of ground when veering right and being slowly away in the latter, but then finished with a real rattle to be gaining all the way to the line and beaten 4 3/4 lengths.
The winner has gone on to be placed in two listed contests and is now rated 93, and the second, third and fourth home have all come out and won since.
That is rock solid form, and makes Majestic Song look potentially well-treated off an opening mark of just 64 in what looks a very winnable class 6 contest.
In the 1m 2f amateur riders’ contest that closes the card (5.45), Diletta Tommasa can take advantage of a drop in the weights to land the spoils.
The filly is now 3lb lower than when last successful, and shaped as if coming back to form when fifth on the turf at Nottingham last time out.
The five-year-old now returns to the surface which has seen her notch all four of her career successes, and also has the added bonus of having the highly talented Serena Brotherton in the saddle who is a real force to be reckoned with in this type of event.
