Lingfield preview: Wee Jean has a big chance

Wee Jean has proven form on soft ground and can defy top weight to land the 1m feature handicap on this evening’s card at Lingfield (18.15).

The Mick Channon trained filly has some useful form to her name last season, finishing third in the class 1 Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot off a mark of 83 and a cracking nose second in a Listed contest at Salisbury off a rating of 95.

Wee Jean got put up to 103 after the latter and her form subsequently tailed off.

However, the four-year-old’s handicap mark fell as a result and Wee Jean took advantage to land a 1m contest at Chester in good style on her penultimate start.

The daughter of Captain Gerrard then had little difficulty following up in a class 2 affair on soft ground at Newmarket 19 days ago, making all to score comfortably by two lengths.

Wee Jean has been put up another 4lb for that success to 94, but remains very well-treated on the pick of her form.

Another plus is that Wee Jean now drops back down into class 3 company, and unlike the vast majority of her rivals has proven winning form on soft ground and won’t be inconvenienced by the deluge of rain that has hit the Surrey venue.

Rambo Will is another that won’t mind the ground and looks the answer to the 5f handicap (18.45).

The gelding has been a terrific servant over the years and notched an eighth career success when making all and holding on gamely to score by a neck over 6f at this venue last month in the hands of Silvestre De Sousa.

Rambo Will has been put up 5lb for that success to a rating of 65, but remains on a handy mark based on his back form.

The John Jenkins trained seven-year-old is also a dual winner at the venue and has winning form on testing ground.

Rambo Will also once again has the services of the in-form SDS in the saddle, and from a good draw in stall four the son of Danbird is going to be very hard to peg back if bagging the favoured stands side rail.
