Lingfield preview: Al’s Memory holds all the aces
David Metcalf | January 15, 2016
Al’s Memory has a superb record at Lingfield and can take advantage of a drop in the weights to further enhance it with victory in the 1m handicap on today’s card at the Surrey venue (13.30).
The David Evans trained gelding is a six-time winner at the track, and was last successful on the turf at Salisbury six months ago when landing a class 5 contest off a mark of 70.
Al’s Memory is now able to race in this lower grade class 6 contest off just 63, and that gives him major claims from a handicapping perspective.
The seven-year-old’s last win on the all-weather surface also came off 1lb higher, and the son of Red Clubs comes into the race having returned to form last time out when an eye-catching third at Wolverhampton.
Al’s Memory stayed on well under Philip Prince to be beaten just 1 1/4 lengths by Pacolita having been poorly positioned, and it was an effort which suggested his time was near.
With Adam Kirby now taking over in the saddle, Al’s Memory looks weighted to take all the beating if building on that effort.
Pyroclastic can flow
In the 1m handicap that opens proceedings (13.00), Pyroclastic can gain a deserved success following a couple of really solid efforts.
The Jim Boyle trained gelding has just one win to his name, with that success coming in classified contest at Wolverhampton last April off an official rating of 65.
Pyroclastic went on to finish third in a handicap at Nottingham off 66, and is now able to race off just 61.
That gives the four-year-old a big shout at the weights, and Pyroclastic showed that he could be ready to take advantage when a cracking head third over 7f at this venue two starts back.
The son of Tagula backed that up with a solid two length third to Bookmaker over course and distance seven days ago when keeping on well to be nearest at the finish having been poorly placed and set a hopeless task.
Those runs suggest Pyroclastic is a winner waiting to happen, and this looks a great opportunity for him to get back on the scoresheet.
