Majesty and Ninjago to strike for Hannon at Newmarket

Channel 4 is screening the first three races live including the annual sprint handicap confined to grey horses. Richard Hannon will saddle the likely favourite in the lightly-raced Majesty who could be well handicapped.

The top weight Baby Strange must have a chance if he can reproduce the form of his win at Newcastle whilst last year’s winner Medici Time is aiming for back-to-back victories in the race. Amy Scott will be hoping that Dream Catcher can improve on last year’s third when sent off favourite.

The meeting opens at 1.50 with the Lanwades Stud Fillies’ Nursery over seven furlongs and the top weight Autumn Lily is likely to be a strong favourite here. She strode clear impressively to beat Senorita Guest at Ascot last time out.

Richard Hannon runs Gold Top and Oriel who both won last time out whilst Richard Fahey is also doubly represented.Shot In The Sun and Heskin have both been very consistent with preference for the former who was just beaten in a similar race at Goodwood.

There are some useful sprinters going to post for the handicap at 2.55 including Hannon’s Ninjago who ran a fine race when fifth in the Stewards’ Cup. Hasopop has been running well all season and has been freshened up by a break since finishing sixth at York in June,

Lyn Valley could be the day’s banker bet after being beaten only a neck in a decent maiden race at Goodwood. A repeat of that performance should be good enough to see off Greed Is Good in the 3.25.

Trade Commissioner has become a little disappointing but, with his stable now in top form, he can get off the mark for the season in the Conditions race at 4.00. Kassiano would be a big threat if fit enough first time out whilst Viewpoint steps up from handicap company.

Shady McCoy will be a popular choice in the 4.30 race after winning well at Thirsk. The biggest danger could come from Henry Candy’s Tight Fit who battled all the way to the line to win at Sandown.

Hold On Tight must have a great chance in the closing 5.05 after finishing less than three lengths behind subsequent Salisbury winner Bantam at Windsor.

Selections: 1.50 Shot In The Sun, 2.20 Majesty (NAP), 2.55 Ninjago, 3.25 Lyn Valley (nb), 4.00 Trade Commissioner, 4.30 Tight Fit, 5.05 Hold On Tight
