McCoy can prove the toast of Taunton
Champion jockey Tony McCoy has long been the punters pal, and has distinct possibilities of serving up a four-timer for his followers at Taunton today.
The 18-times champ kicks off with Tiradia in the opener (4.55), who looks thrown-in at the weights after finishing second to a 123-rated rival at Kempton last time out.
The John Jenkins trained gelding got beat just 3/4 of a length by Desoto County, and repeat of that effort would make the seven-year-old very hard to beat off a mark of just 94.
In the 2m 4f novices’ hurdle (5.55), Kings Bandit looks a worthy odds-on shot to complete the hat-trick.
Donald McCain’s six-year-old is unbeaten since being sent hurdling, making all to score at Ludlow and Wetherby.
The gelding has to give weight all-round as a result of those successes, but is improving at a rate of knots and it will be a major shock if the son of King’s Theatre is not up to the task.
McCoy also teams up with McCain in the 2m 7f chase (6.30) where he partners the class-dropping Beeves.
The seven-year-old was out of his depth in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival when last seen in action, but had previously posted four solid efforts to finish in the frame.
The gelding’s run beind subsequent Irish Grand National winner Shutthefrontdoor at Aintree, where he was beaten just 1/2 a length, stands out like sore thumb in this grade and makes him the one they all have to beat.
Strongly Suggested is the final leg of a possible four-timer for McCoy in the 2m 1f handicap chase (7.30).
The gelding is trained by Jonjo O’Neil, and has failed to cut any ice in two starts over fences.
However, the seven-year-old was a fair hurdler who could prove a different propositon now going handicapping for the first time over the larger obstacles.
The son of Kay Tara is currently rated 120 over fences, just 3lb higher than when last successful over hurdles at Market Rasen last August, and remains open to significant improvement in this sphere.
