Mince among acceptors for Group 3 Coral Charge

Mince has proved frustrating so far this year and is yet to show the sparkle that enabled her to win four consecutive races last season. The last of those came in the Group 3 Bengough Stakes at Ascot over six furlongs but she may drop back to five for the Coral Charge.

The early favourite is Sir Michael Stoute’s Duke Of Firenze who is taking a step up from handicap company. He won the Epsom Dash in dramatic fashion at the Derby meeting when cutting through the pack to get up in the dying strides.

On the strength of that run he was made favourite for the Wokingham but the race did not unfold to suit his running style and he had to settle for eighth. Ryan Moore knows how to get the best out of the son of Pivotal and he is expected to appear late on the scene.

Dutch Masterpiece is another who is tackling Group company for the first time having won handicaps at Chester and Newmarket. Both races were over five furlongs and Gary Moore’s three-year-old could still be improving.

Top on official ratings are the Robert Cowell-trained pair of Kingsgate Native and Spirit Quartz. On the pick of their form they would be entitled to go very close but they both ran poorly at the Royal meeting.

Kingsgate Native beat King’s Stand winner Sole Power at Haydock with Spirit Quartz not far behind but they were unable to repeat that form at Ascot. Lady Cecil’s Tickled Pink looked set for a good season when winning at Newmarket first time out but has been soundly beaten twice since. She is yet to race at the minimum trip and that has to be a slight concern.

David O’Meara’s Elusivity has been running consistently this season and again caught the eye when seventh in the Wokingham. Wherever Duke Of Firenze finishes, he should not be far away on that evidence.

Bryan Smart’s Moviesta is an interesting runner having just been denied at York last time by Body And Soul. He has gone up 15lbs in the handicap this season so is certainly worth a try at this level.
