More to come from Moorlands Mist at Chepstow
There is a good supporting card on Coral Welsh National day with Channel 4 cameras covering four races on the card. The going will be extremely testing so the emphasis will be on stamina and Moorlands Mist certainly fits the bill in the 1.30.
The six-year-old grey has won twice at Chepstow in the past including a nine-length victory here earlier in the month. He has been given a 10lbs penalty for that success but looks very much like a hurdler on the upgrade.
Jonjo O’Neill’s runners are always worth a second look in staying handicap hurdles and Lookout Mountain also has claims. He enjoys a big pull in the weights with Moorlands Mist and was given an awful lot to do before staying on into fourth last time.
Nicky Henderson suffered a nightmare day at Kempton yesterday and will be hoping for a welcome boost from Kentucky Hyden in the Future Champions Finale Juvenile Hurdle at 2.00. He was just denied at Cheltenham by Ballyglasheen in a driving finish and can go one better here.
The unbeaten Violet Dancer represents the in-form Gary Moore stable whilst Chocala can improve from his debut run at Newbury. Solar Impulse is the unknown quantity and is making his first start for Paul Nicholls since arriving from France.
The Grand National winning combination of Sue Smith and Ryan Mania could strike with hat-trick seeking Coverholder in the 3.10 race. The gelding has not been extended to win two minor races in the north and has been put up a stone as a result.
A lot of his rivals appear to be out of form, although the Evan Williams-trained Get It On is also seeking a third consecutive win and could be dangerous in receipt of 10lbs. The feature race is the Coral Welsh National at 2.35 and Well Refreshed continues to attract support along with Merry King and the outsider Hawkes Point.
Selections: 12.30 Caesar Milan, 1.00 Richmond, 1.30 Moorlands Mist, 2.00 Kentucky Hyden, 2.35 Well Refreshed, 3.10 Coverholder, 3.45 Bar A Mine
