Musselburgh preview: Quito Du Tresor has plenty in his favour
David Metcalf | November 6, 2015
The Lucinda Russell trained gelding is a three-time course and distance winner, with the last of those successes coming back in January off a mark of 120.
Quit Du Tresor backed that up with a solid third to Ifandbutwhynot over an inadequate 2m at the track off a revised rating of 123, but has not been at his best in six subsequent outings despite finishing in the frame on two occasions.
However, that has resulted in the 11-year-old being cut plenty of slack by the handicapper and the son Jeune Homme and is now able to race off just 111.
That is 9lb lower than when last successful and the lowest rating Quito Du Tresor has run off since January 2010.
It gives Quito major claims from a handicapping perspective, especially now returned to his favourite stomping ground.
Another plus is that the stable are in terrific form and saddled a treble at the track yesterday, and with underfoot conditions to suit Quito Du Tresor looks weighted to run a huge race.
Back Meadowcroft Boy after drop in grade
In the 2m handicap hurdle (15.00), Meadowcroft Boy can get back to winning ways now eased in grade.
The Alistair Whillans trained gelding was unbeaten in two bumper runs and opened his account over hurdles at the first time of asking at Carlisle back in December 2013.
Meadowcroft Boy then ran well to be third in a Grade 2 at Haydock, and was allotted an opening handicap mark of 137 on the back of that effort.
Although the six-year-old failed to get his head in front last season, he did run some solid races including when a six length fourth of 10 to Ruacana in a competitive class 2 contest over course and distance off a mark of 133.
Meadowcroft Boy also ran very well to finish a 8 3/4 length third to the now 149-rated Glingerburn in the Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso, and is now able to race in this lower grade class 3 contest off 132.
That should enable the five-year-old to be very competitive, and another plus is that Meadowcroft Boy has the services of Craig Nichol in the saddle whose claim take another 3lb off his back.
