Newbury preview: Weatherbys Super Sprint (15.45)

Trainer Tim Easterby has a good record in the Weatherby’s Super Sprint, and Excessable can further enhance it with victory in this years renewal of the ultra-competitive two-year-old contest at Newbury (15.45).

The Malton-based handler has saddled there winners of the race, the last of those being Body And Soul in 2012.

In Excessable he has a lightly-raced and unexposed colt who looks an above average sort and well in at the weights.

The son of Sakhee’s Secret created a huge impression when scoring on debut at Ripon, travelling strongly on the heels of the leaders before taking up the running at the furlong marker and quickening clear to score by 3 1/2 lengths.

Excessable backed that up with a solid second in a decent contest at Beverley when going down by just a neck to Lydia’s Place.

The winner had more experience going into the race and had gone on to score again since, and the pair pulled six lengths clear of the field to give the form a solid look.

It was a cracking effort given that Excessable was attempting to give 13lb to the winner, and one which suggests he is weighted to take all the beating in this off just 8st 3lb.

The Hannon family also have a terrific record in the race, with Richard senior saddling a record seven winners and Richard junior landing the race 12 months ago with Tiggy Wiggy after taking over the licence from his father.

Hannon has six runners this time around, and the pick looks to be Great Page, who is partnered by Richard Hughes.

HORSE RACING

The filly has won two of her four starts, and was particularly impressive in the last of those at Naas when cruising to a three length success in a Listed contest.

Great Page was also far from disgraced last time out when fourth in a Group 2 contest at the Curragh, and also ran very well when chasing home stable companion Illuminate at Salisbury earlier in the season.

Illuminate is now unbeaten in three starts having gone on to land a Group 2 contest at Royal Ascot and the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket, and that gives the form a strong look in the context of this contest.

Coral’s top tip: Excessable is definitely one to keep onside.
