Newcastle preview: Outlaw Torn weighted to go well

Outlaw Torn can take advantage of a drop in the weights to land the 1m handicap on today’s card at Newcastle (17.50).

The Richard Guest-trained gelding is a dual winner over course and distance, and now 8lb lower than when registering his last success at Musselburgh 12 months ago.

That gives the six-year-old outstanding claims from a handicapping perspective, and Outlaw Torn’s current rating of 54 is the lowest he has raced off in three years.

The son of Iffraaj also comes into the race on the back of a promising run at Nottingham when fading late on to finish sixth of 10 to Irondale Express having travelled well for much of the 1m contest.

That run suggested that Outlaw Torn was coming back top the boil, and if building on it he looks weighted to take all the beating now returned to a venue which clearly suits.

Kinema has a progressive profile and looks the answer to the 1m 2f handicap (15.50).

This gelding opened his account over 1m 2f at Lingfield back in October when trained by Ed Walker, making all and holding on gamely to beat Sequester by a head off a mark of 70.

The runner-up, to whom Kinema was giving 2lb, has gone on to score twice since and bolted up by five lengths in the last of those off a mark of 75.

Kinema then joined trainer Alan Swinbank and has run three solid races to be placed for her new handler this season.

In the last of those the four-year-old got beat just 1/2 a length at Nottingham on soft ground, so if the forecast rain arrives underfoot conditions will hold no fears.

Although Kinema has been put up 3lb for that effort, the daughter of Galileo is clearly on an upward curve and on her win over Sequester should have little difficulty winning races off a mark of 78.

In the 2m handicap (16.20), the consistent Bowdler’s Magic can gain a much deserved success.

The eight-year-old has posted two solid efforts to finish in the frame this season, and although on a long losing run is now running off an 18lb lower mark than when last successful.

That gives the David Thompson-trained gelding, who is versatile as regards going, major claims at the weights.
