Newmarket Preview: Random set for more Success

Random Success won with tons in hand last time out and looks up to defying a penalty in the 5f handicap at Newmarket today (5.55).

The Roger Charlton trained filly was in good form on the all-weather earlier in the year, and got back on track in no uncertain fashion when beating Secret Missile by 2 3/4 lengths at Newbury 11 days ago off a mark of 72.

The daughter of Shamardal travelled ominously well throughout the contest, and after making smooth headway two from from home quickened clear inside the last to win with any amount in hand.

It’s no surprise that connections have turned Random Success out quickly for that runaway success under a 6lb penalty, as the four-year-old has been given a revised mark of 80.

That means that Random Success is officially 2lb “well-in” at the weights, and she is going to be very tough to beat if turning up in the same form.

Glorious Empire has a progressive profile and looks the answer to the 7f handicap earlier on the card (4.25).

The gelding has won three of his five starts, and posted a career-best effort last time out when fourth of 11 to Mange All in a warm 1m handicap at Ascot.

The Ed Walker trained son of Holy Roman Emperor raced keenly before weakening to be beaten just 2 3/4 lengths, and the drop back to 7f looks sure to suit.

The lightly-raced three-year-old also remains open to further improvement, and with underfoot conditions holding no fears this looks a nice opportunity for Glorious Empire to get back to winning ways.
In the 1m handicap (4.55), the unexposed Zain Empire is sure to take all the beating if coping with the slower conditions.
The Robert Cowell trained colt has only raced on quick ground, and after overcoming greenness to score on debut at Carlsile posted a cracking effort to finish third to Provenance in a decent class 3 handicap at Sandown last month.
Zain Empire kept on strongly from off the pace to be beaten just 1 1/2 lengths, and the form looks strong with the winner going on to follow-up and the fourth home Crystal Lake winning next time up.
Although now 2lb higher in the weights, Zain Empire is open to bags more improvement and now drops down a grade into class 4 company.
