Nottingham Preview: Shanghai can power to Glory
Shanghai Glory shaped with bags of promise on his debut, and looks a worthy favourite to land the 6f maiden that opens proceedings on today’s eight-race card at Nottingham (14.00).
The Charlie Hills trained colt showed plenty of early dash before keeping on to finish a not knocked about 2 1/2 length third on nine to Silver Wings at Windsor, and the form of the racehas a strong look to it.
Silver Wings has since gone on to finish a solid second in a conditions contest at Chester before finishing runner-up to a very exciting prospect in the shape of Soapy Aitken, whilst the fourth home Dream Dreamer bolted up by 4 1/2 lengths at Windsor last night.
That sets a decent standard in this class 5 contest, especially as Shanghai Glory looked in need of the outing and is sure to come on considerably for the experience.
The son of Exceed And Excel also has the services of Ryan Moore in the saddle, and granted normal improvement is going to be a hard to beat.
Melodious scored in good style last time out at the track and can follow-up in the 1m 2f handicap (15.30) to provide Moore with a double.
The filly raced up with a pace and stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to get up close home and win going away by a length in a 1m maiden on soft ground.
It was a taking performance, and the way in which Melodious finished off the race suggested today’s extra two furlongs would be right up her street.
The David Elsworth trained daughter of Cape Cross also remains unexposed after just three starts, and an opening handicap mark of 78 does not look harsh.
In the 5f handicap (17.00), Where The Boys Are can build on a promising reappearance run to land the spoils.
The Ed McMahon trained filly looked all over the winner until getting chinned on the line and beaten a nose by Sleeping Apache at Pontefract, and the third home Pabusar has come out an won since to give the form a boost.
It makes a 1lb rise for Where The Boys Are look on the lenient side, and the daughter of Dylan Thomas is just 4lb higher than when last successful.
Where The Boys Are is also entitled to strip much fitter for the outing, her first in 215 days, and this represents a good opportunity for the four-year-old to notch a third career success.
