Paddy The Hare can defy penalty in Market Rasen Summer Plate
Trainer Dr Richard Newland has three runners in Saturday’s Betfred Summer Plate at Market Rasen but Paddy The Hare stands out. The eight-year-old is on a hat-trick following a comfortable victory over course and distance last time out.
The handicapper took a dim view of that success and has raised Paddy The Hare 12lbs as a result but he is still well in on 10st 5lb. He was eased down to win by 12 lengths that day and can confirm the form with third-placed Gentleman Anshan.
Newland also saddles Pineau De Re and Bobowen. Pineau De Re took his chance in the John Smith’s Summer Cup at Uttoxeter but he weakened to finish sixth. He may have a tough task reversing the form with fourth placed Galaxy Rock here.
Bobowen has been aimed at this race after a good run over course and distance last September but he didn’t give much encouragement on his first appearance at Worcester recently. Peter Bowen has a fine record in this race having won it with Yes Sir (2006), Iron Man (2007) and Snoopy Loopy (2008).
The Pembrokeshire trainer relies on hat-trick seeking Dineur who is up 5lbs for his latest success. Bocciani is another winner last time out, Brian Ellison’s gelding having got home here by a head in May.
Paul Nicholls saddles the top weight Woolcombe Folly with Harry Derham set to take off 5lbs. He would have a chance on his best form but may be in the handicapper’s grip after finishing second on his last two starts.
David Pipe saddles Problema Tic who was highly tried last season at Cheltenham and Aintree. Jonjo O’Neill relies on Galaxy Rock (AP McCoy) and veteran Finger Onthe Pulse with Maurice Linehan taking 5lbs off of his back.
Galaxy Rock ran a good trial for this when staying on from well back to take fourth at Uttoxeter. He looks fairly treated but his very best form has come on a softer surface. The consistent Buck Mulligan is another to consider in a wide open race.
