Perth preview: Treble chance for Pipe and Scu

Trainer David Pipe and jockey Tom Scudamore look to hold leadings claims of landing a treble on today’s seven-race card at Perth courtesy of Street Entertainer, Border Breaker and Epic Warrior.

Street Entertainer runs in the 2m claiming hurdle (14.55) and looks a cut above his rivals.

The eight-year-old has been in good form in recent months, landing a handicap hurdle at this venue and also scoring at Worcester.

He also ran very well last time out when runner-up in a competitive class 2 handicap at Cartmel and this represents a big drop in class.

Granted a clear round the son of Danehill Dancer is going to be very hard to beat.

Border Breaker opened his account over fences at the second time of asking at the track two weeks ago and can make light of a 4lb rise in the weights to follow-up in the 2m 7f handicap chase (17.15).

The six-year-old got hampered by a faller three from home, but showed a good attitude to dig deep and stay on strongly to get up close home and beat Russian Regent by a head.

That race was over 2m 4f, and the extra three furlongs this afternoon look sure to suit judged on the way Border Breaker finished off the contest.

Epic Warrior runs in the 2m 7f handicap that closes proceedings (17.45) and looks to have got in lightly.

The gelding has only had three starts under rules, and after finishing third in a bumper at Worcester ran very well on hurdles debut when chasing home the 120-rated Mont Choisy at the same venue.

Epic Warrior then showed the benefit of that experience when romping to a facile 15 lengths success in a 2m 7f maiden hurdle at Southwell, and an opening handicap mark of 125 looks exploitable given that the six-year-old remains totally unexposed and open to any amount of improvement.
