Plumpton preview: Lots to like about Leith Hill Legasi

David Metcalf | November 30, 2015

No Uphill task

Leith Hill Legasi scored in good style last time out and can make light of a rise in the weights to follow-up in 3m 1f handicap chase on today’s card at Plumpton (15.10).

The Charlie Longsdon trained mare took advantage of a reduced mark to make a winning return to action in a class 4 contest at Chepstow when beating Bebinn by 2 3/4 lengths off a mark of 79.

Leith Hill Legasi raced with plenty of zest throughout at the head of affairs, and found plenty when challenged to score with a bit more in hand than the winning margin suggests.

Although now 7lb higher in the weights, the six-year-old remains well-treated on previous form and now drops into class 5 company.

Leith Hill Legasi’s current mark of 86 is just 1lb higher than when she was previously successful at Lingfield when romping to a 36 length success.

It gives the daughter of Kahyasi every chance from a handicapping perspective, and this race has a much weaker look to it than the one she was successful in at Chepstow.

Clonusker can be Jewell in crown

In the 2m handicap hurdle (14.40), Clonusker has been given a chance by the assessor and looks decent value to land the spoils.

The Linda Jewell trained gelding opened his account in good style over course and distance back in January 2014 when staying on strongly to score by 14 lengths.

Clonusker then defied a 14lb rise in the weights to follow-up at Plumpton, and was far from disgraced when fifth of 11 at the same venue off a mark of 94 when last seen in action.

The seven-year-old suffered an injury in the latter and has subsequently been on the sidelines for 630 days.

However, the handicapper has dropped Clonusker 6lb to a mark of 88 and that is the same rating as when he was last successful.

It gives the son of Fasilyev major claims at the weights if ready to go at the first time of asking in what doesn’t look the strongest of class 5 contests.
