Saturday racing, odds preview and tips
Another pulsating afternoon of racing awaits on ITV today, with the conclusion of the Ebor Festival from York and three contests from Goodwood on a seven-race card.
Ed Chamberlin and co. will be in position on the Knavesmire for a quartet of top-notch renewals, including the City of York Stakes and a huge Ebor Handicap.
Can the favourites do the business? Or will we see more shocks akin to Alpha Delphini yesterday? The Coral News Team has you covered ahead of today’s action.
Whiskey Sour to strike it sweet?
The big betting heat of the day comes at 3:40pm in the Ebor Handicap. A maximum field of 20 runners will go to post to contest the 1m 6f trial, with the winner receiving over £300,000.
Willie Mullins has the favourite with hot five-year-old Stratum. But it’s another from his yard that has our attention in Whiskey Sour. The Jeremy gelding likes to flit between jumps and the flat, so his inclusion here tells us that connections really fancy his chances.
And so they should. His fifth place finish at Royal Ascot in June looks a nice piece of form to start off. But that’s not all. He goes off the same mark as the last two winners of this race and he also has an ideal high draw from stall 18.
With top jockey William Buick on board, we’re expecting a big run from the 1m 4f and 2m winner.
Suedois made of winning material?
When Expert Eye gets it right, he gets it right in style. But it’s difficult to trust a colt who has only served up a single win in four starts this year. So Suedois makes for a more than viable alternative in the Duke of York Stakes.
David O’Meara’s charge was third in this race last year and has been in good form since. A runner-up bow to Sir Dancealot last time out is nothing to be ashamed of, especially given the four-year-old’s subsequent Group 2 success at Newbury.
This race should be a straight shootout between the two favourites. And it’s Suedois who is backed to come out on top.
Aim high with Aim Power
Ten is the magic number in the Prestige Stakes at 2:40pm, with three places available to prospective punters thanks to the nice round field size. That means it could be worth a go on Aim Power.
The Zebedee filly stepped up from her debut run at Goodwood when winning convincingly at Windsor last time out. She made all that day and shaped as though she should enjoy the extra furlong afforded to her here.
Richard Hannon’s fancy looks like the sort to continue on an upward curve as she gains more experience. With question marks over most of the field, she looks a nice selection on each-way terms here.
ITV Racing tips:
1:50 York – Threading (each-way)
2:05 Goodwood – Beat The Bank
2:25 York – Mekong
2:40 Goodwood – Aim Power (each-way)
3:00 York – Suedois
3:15 Goodwood – Vale of Kent
3:40 York – Whiskey Sour
