Sandown Preview: Treble chance for Gosden
Trainer John Gosden is enjoying a terrific season and looks to hold claims of landing a treble on this evening’s card at Sandown courtesy of Snoano, Prince Of Stars and Fastnet Red.
Snoano runs in the mile maiden (6.50) and caught the eye on debut when a promising seventh of behind Lexington Times in a decent maiden at Newmarket.
The son of Nayef showed plenty of pace to chase the leaders after going left at the start, and after holding every chance a furlong from home only weakened in the last 100 yards to be beaten 5 1/2 lengths.
The third home Basateen has since come out a bolted up by eight lengths to give the form a solid look, and Snoano looks a sure fire improver who should be well up to winning a maiden of this nature.
Prince Of Stars has a progressive profile and could well have got in lightly on handicap debut in the 1m 2f contest (7.25).
The colt shaped really well when fifth in the Wood Ditton, and showed the benefit of that experience when running out the ready winner of a Chester maiden.
The son of Sea The Stars has the scope to make up into a useful prospect, and an opening mark of 85 looks very exploitable.
Fastnet Red runs in the 1m 2f handicap (7.55) and appears to have been found a golden opportunity to open his account at the fifth time of asking.
The colt shaped nicely in three maiden runs before putting in an improved performance last time out on handicap debut at Newbury when third of eight to Second Step.
The sonof Fastnet Rock kept on from off the pace to be beaten 3 1/2 lengths, and the winner is a well-regarded sort who has since gone on to finish a cracking third in a hot handicap at Goodwood.
The form looks rock solid in the context of tonight’s contest, and with further improvement assured, it will be disappointing if Fastnet Red does not prove far too good for his exposed rivals.
