Voix Du Reve ready to rock Sandown showdown
The British National Hunt Trainers’ Championship is going right down to the wire, and will be decided at Sandown this Saturday as Irish handler Willie Mullins challenges holder Paul Nicholls.
In the 1m 7f Juvenile Handicap Hurdle that opens proceedings (14:20), Voix Du Reve can defy top weight and bounce back from falling last time at the Cheltenham Festival to land the spoils for Mullins.
This will be just the four-year-old’s third run for his new handler, but French brown gelding Voix Du Reve has caught the eye on both his appearances since joining Mullins to date after winning a couple of races on home soil, including at Nancy.
Tommy Silver must make all to thwart Mullins
Voix Du Reve had every chance when going down at the final flight in the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle last time out in March, having made major headway once reaching the top of the famous Prestbury Park hill.
Punters should forgive him taking a tumble, as Nicholls entry Tommy Silver has already shown a proclivity for being a front-runner. If not at the head of proceedings, this bay gelding is yet to make an impression on his other starts either side of making all to win the Scottish Triumph Hurdle Trial at Musselburgh back in February.
Dan Skelton also has a runner in this race in Ashoka, yet he was 11 lengths behind Tommy Silver when previously seen in action, and clearly has plenty to find to win this. Since going over the obstacles, this horse appears to like soft ground, and the weather will need to turn at Sandown to accommodate him.
With these clear questions marks over his race rivals, Voix Du Reve looks the one worth a wager in the Sandown opener on what is sure to be a compelling final day of the British National Hunt season.
