Taunton Preview: Double chance for in-form Mulholland

Trainer Neil Mulholland has his team in flying form, and looks to hold major claims of landing a double on today’s card at Taunton with Isthereadifference and Midnight Sequel.

The Conkwell Grange handler has been successful with six of his last 10 runners, and Isthereadifference will relish the quick ground in the 2m 3f novices’ handicap chase (15:20).

This gelding has registered all his best form on good going or quicker and, after finishing runner-up on his first three starts over fences, deservedly got off the mark when scoring by 3 3/4 lengths at Stratford on good-to-firm ground.

Isthereadifference got put up 5lb for that success, but showed that he could be competitive off his current mark of 96 when a solid 3 1/2 lengths second to Cara Court at Catterick.

The son of Amilynx then unseated on his final start last year, and now returns to action after a 193-day break having clearly been kept by connections for a spring/summer campaign.

With the yard going so well, Isthereadifference is unlikely to be found wanting through lack of fitness and, with the prospect of further improvement on the cards, looks sure to take all the beating in what isn’t the strongest of class 4 contests.

Midnight Sequel runs in the conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle that closes the card (16:50), and is weighted to go well following an eye-catching run last time out.

This mare is a multiple winner on the flat, who has had just six start over the obstacles, and ran well on her handicap debut last June to finish a two-length runner up to Detour Ahead at Fontwell off an opening mark of 79.

The six-year-old and was then off the track for 278 days before reappearing at this venue last month, where she travelled strongly for much of the contest before weakening late on to finish sixth of 14 to Seymour Legend.

Midnight Sequel shaped as if needing the run, and the winner has come out and been victorious since off 12lb higher to give the form a solid look in the context of this contest.

With that outing under her belt Midnight Sequel should be now be spot on to do herself justice and, taking her young rider’s 8lb claim into account, the daughter of Kayf Tara is 1lb lower than when runner-up to Detour Ahead and handicapped to run a huge race.
