Thirsk Preview: Disclosure poised to follow-up
Disclosure bounced back to form in no uncertain fashion last time out and can defy a rise in the weights to follow-up in the 1m handicap at Thirsk today (4.15).
The Les Eyre trained gelding relished the step up to a mile when running out an impressive winner over course and distance 18 days ago.
After being held-up in the last pair, the three-year-old cruised into contention two from home and after squeezing between rivals to lead inside the last furlong showed a smart turn of foot in the hands of Graham Lee to shoot clear and win by 3 1/4 lengths.
The son of Indesatchel won with tons in hand and it was a performance that suggested he needed keeping firmly onside.
Although now 8lb higher in the weights, Disclosure was rated as high as 76 in the past so his current mark of 74 should not be beyond him.
Just Paul has fallen to a dangerous mark and can take advantage to land the 7f handicap (3.40).
The Philip Kirby trained gelding, who is 1-1 over course and distance, was last successful back in May when scoring by a cosy 1 3/4 lengths at Musselburgh off a mark of 76.
The four-year-old was put up to 81 for that victory, and subsequently failed to trouble the judged in his next four starts.
However, Just Paul’s handicap mark has fallen as a result and the son of Clodovil now gets into this off 77.
That is just 1lb higher than when last successful, and gives Just Paul every chance from a handicapping perspective.
In the 1m 4f handicap that closes proceedings (5.15), Freewheel is a fascinating contender now dropped in class.
The gelding won on debut at Tipperary last year when trained by Aidan O’Brien, and joined Dandy Nicholls for the start of this season.
The three-year-old failed to cut any ice in his first three starts for his new handler, but then posted a solid effort last time out when sixth of 14 in a class 2 contest over course and distance.
Freewheel finished just two lengths behind the fourth home Stomachion who has since gone on to land a competitive contest at Doncaster, and that looks strong form in the context of this class 4 contest.
