Tipperary Preview – Atzeni can guide Ainippe home

Ainippe can extend her purple patch today by winning the 5.40 at Tipperary, a group three fillies’ race over an extended seven furlongs.

She’s been in rude health this year with form figures of 211 on her last three starts. She’s got bags of speed having won a listed contest over five furlongs and a group three over six. It was her first attempt at seven furlongs last time out and she showed that she had the stamina to compliment her speed, running out a ready winner. Today’s race is far tougher but she did everything right on her last start with Majestic Queen rated 106, finishing a length a half back in second and she can win again today.

She does carry a group two penalty of 5lbs which will make life harder but this well-bred filly can still improve given she’s unexposed at the trip. Andrea Atzeni, retained by Qatar Racing, travels across to Ireland for this one ride and that probably highlights the regard with which this horse is held in.

Laviniad beat Tested earlier this season but the former was receiving 5lbs and she’s likely to find it harder today. She’s made rapid progress this season developing her from a handicapper to a group level contender but this is easily her hardest task to date. Tested would rate as Ainippe’s greatest danger today given she won this last year. She put in a very good run last time out and she has ideal conditions today.

Ainippe is still only three years of age and she looks the type to keep on improving for each run. She’s unexposed at the trip and given she proved she could handle the seven furlong trip well on her last start, there should be more to come from Ger Lyons star filly.

In the 5.10 at Tipperary, Tonkinese can put a bad run behind him and return to winning ways in this nursery.

He’s not been seen since finishing last of twelve in the Chesham at Royal Ascot and it’s slightly worrying he’s been off the track since. It’s likely he had a small injury or niggle after that run but given he’s had plenty of time off, Mick Halford’s colt can return to his best here.

He looked a smart prospect when he broke his maiden tag at Leopardstown and although the ground is softer today, it shouldn’t inconvenience him having finished third on yielding ground on his debut.

Like many in the field, he’s unexposed and this son of Authorized can only improve on what he has shown so far. He was clearly thought of highly enough to try a listed contest at Royal Ascot so he can return the faith shown in him by landing this nursery today.
