Windsor preview: Breden can make winning return to action

Breden can make his class tell to overcome a lengthy absence and land the 1m 2f feature handicap on this evening’s card at Windsor (19.50).

The John Gosden trained gelding had a progressive profile when winning three times in 2013, and a looked a potential pattern performer in the last of those when quickening smartly to beat Ajman Bridge by 1 3/4 lengths in a class 2 handicap at Neamrket off a mark of 87.

Breden subsequently suffered an injury and has been off the track fro 674 days, but the fact that connections have persevered with him suggests the five-year-old retains plenty of ability.

The son of Shamardal has also won after a break in the past, and a mark of 90 looks exploitable in this class 3 contest.

With the hood fitted for the first time and Rab Havlin in the saddle, Breden can make light of top weight to land the spoils before going on to better things.

Kenstone caught the eye on his debut over course and distance and can go well at a decent price in the 6f maiden (18.20).

The colt stayed on from the rear to finish a never nearer 5 3/4 length eighth of 15 to Shakerattlenroll under tender handling handled, and it was an effort which suggested he should be capable of much better.

In the 1m nursery (19.20), New Caledonia can provide in-form trainer Mark Johnston with yet another winner.

The colt looked clueless when well beaten on his debut but put in a much improved performance last time out when making all to win a eight-runner maiden at York.

New Caledonia still showed distinct signs of inexperience and raced green throughout, but responded well to the urgings of jockey Silvestre De Sousa and found plenty to score by 3/4 of a length.

It was an effort which suggested the son of Cape Cross should have plenty more to offer, and an opening handicap mark of 80 does not look harsh.
