Wolverhampton preview: Admirable Art an authentic chance
Admirable Art has built up a solid record at Wolverhampton, and looks weighted to land the 7f handicap on today’s marathon eight-race card (18.00).
The Tony Carroll trained gelding has run three times at the West Midlands venue, winning once and finishing third on the other two occasions.
The success came over this afternoon’s trip back in January, where after being slowly away the five-year-old ran on strongly to beat Spirit Of Gondree by 3/4 of a length off a mark of 59.
Admirable Art is now able to race off the same rating having since gone on to be placed twice off 1lb higher, and that gives him every major claims at the weights.
Although the son of Excellent Art has disappointed in his last two starts, they have come on the turf at Brighton and Les Landes in Jersey and it would be no surprise to see Admirable Art bounce back now returned to this venue and the Tapeta surface which clearly suits.
Another plus is that Carroll is in good form at present and has a decent strike rate with his runners at the track, and from a good draw in stall two Admirable looks to have plenty in his favour to get back to winning ways.
In the other 7f handicap on the card (17.30), Silvala Dance is an interesting contender now stepped back up in trip.
The Chris Wall trained mare showed progressive form throughout last season, running well to make the frame on two occasions before opening her account in good style at Yarmouth.
After being held-up off the pace, Silvala Dance made smooth headway to hit the front a furlong from home before running on strongly to score by two lengths off an opening handicap mark of 50.
The daughter of Kyllachy was then far from disgraced on her final start last year when fourth over 6f at this venue off 56, and caught the eye on seasonal reappearance when seventh of 16 over 6f at Nottingham.
Silvala Dance kept on nicely under tender handling after being slowly away to be nearest at the finish and beaten 3 1/4 lengths , and although only sixth of 11 last time out over 6f at this track blew her chances with a slow start before keeping on under a hands an heels ride.
Those runs suggest Silvala Dance is well worth another try at 7f, a trip over which she has twice been placed in the past, and the five-year-old looks nicely treated off a mark of 54 on the pick of her form.
