Wolverhampton Preview: Chookie primed for repeat success

Chookie Royale shaped really well last time out and holds outstanding claims of landing the 1m 1f conditions’ stakes at Wolverhampton today (5.10) for the second year running.
The Keith Dalgleish trained gelding romped to a seven length success 12 months ago before going on to land a Listed contest at this track by 3 1/4 lengths.
The seven-year-old has won five of his six starts at the venue, and although now tackling the Tapeta surface for the first time there is no reason to believe that he will not be just as effective on it.

Chookie Royale also comes into the contest on the back of a cracking effort after 280 days on the sidelines to finish fifth of 13 to the progressive Shyron under a mammoth weight at Lingfield, and connections followed a similar path the with son of Monsieur Bond before he stormed to victory in this last year.

It’s clear that this contest has been his target for some time, and Chookie Royale can make the most of the 5lb he recieves from Graphic to land the spoils.

In the 1m 6f apprentice handicap (2.40), The Yank can gain a deserved success in the hands of th immenesly promising Tom Marquand.

The Tony Carroll trained gelding has run really well to finish runner-up in his last three starts, and went down by just 1/2 a length in the last of those at Kempton to a well-treated rival in Mountain Range.

Although now 3lb higher in the weights, that is offset by Marquand’s claim and represents rock solid form in the contest of this contest.

Unlike his rivals, the six-year-old is also right at the top of his game at present and this looks a glorious opportunity for The Yank to get back into the winners’ enclosure.

Craroll looks to have claims of landing a double on the card with First Rebellion in 5f handicap that closes proceedings (5.40).

The gelding is a course winner who was last successful at Kempton back in October when making all to score by 1 1/4 lengths off a mark of 49.

The six-year-old has since run well to be placed three times of a revised mark of 56, and now gets into this off 1lb lower.

That gives First Rebellion every chance at the weights, and from a good draw in stall six the son of Cockney Rebel could be tough to peg.
