Wolverhampton preview: Dilgura to cash-in on class drop

David Metcalf | January 11, 2016

Dilgura shaped really well last time out and can take advantage of a drop in grade to get back to winning ways in the 6f handicap on today’s card at Wolverhampton (13.50).

The Stuart Kittow trained mare is very lightly-raced for a six-year-old, and has won two of her seven starts.

In the last of those successes back in 2013, Dilgura ran on strongly to beat Burren View Lady by a neck over 6f at this venue on the old polytrack surface off a mark of 73.

The daughter of Ishiguru has had just three starts since, and caught the eye last time out at Lingfield when third of 10 in a class 4 handicap.

Dilgura showed plenty of pace to race at the head of affairs unil being headed deep inside the last to be beaten just 1/2 a length.

It was a cracking effort given that it was Dilgura’s second start back after a lengthy lay off, and she should not be spot on to do herself justice.

If building that run, Dilgura looks weighted to take all the beating off an unchanged mark of 74 now dropped down into class 5 company.

Punters should dig out Black Truffle

Horse Racing - Lingfield Park Racecourse

In the 7f apprentice handicap that opens proceedings (12.45), course specialist Black Truffle looks decent value to land the spoils.

The Mark Usher trained gelding is a three-time course and distance winner, and in the last of those scored easily under Josephine Gordon in a class 5 apprentice handicap off a mark of 61.

Black Truffle has since gone on to finish a solid second in another class 5 contest over course and distance off 66, and is now able to race in this lower grade class 6 affair off 64.

That makes the six-year-old look nicely treated on the pick of his form, especially with the highly promising Gordon once again in the saddle taking off 3lb with her claim.

Black Truffle should also get the strong gallop that he needs to be seen at his best with several trailblazers in the line-up, and everything looks in place for a huge run.
