Wolverhampton preview: Miss Inga Sock can open account

Miss Inga Sock ran a blinder when runner-up on her seasonal reappearance and can go one better to open her account in the 1m 1f handicap on today’s eight-race card at Wolverhampton (16.05).

This Eve Johnson Houghton trained filly shaped with plenty of promise in three runs last year, and particularly caught the eye when third of 10 to Disprove in a 6f contest at Lingfield.

Miss Inga Sock raced prominently until getting outpaced two from home, before rallying strongly to be beaten 4 1/2 lengths.

The winner is now rated 81, the runner-up Frantical scored next time up, and the fourth home Clergyman has also gone on to score since and is rated 82.

That is strong form, and Miss Inga Sock nearly took advantage of what looked a very lenient opening handicap mark of 57 when narrowly failing to overhaul Cassandane in a 1m contest at Bath last month.

The daughter of Tagula showed plenty of pace to track the leaders and stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to be gaining all the way to the line and beaten just 3/4 of a length.

Although now 4lb higher in the weights, Miss Inga Sock meets the winner on 2lb better terms and the third home Avenue Du Monde has come out and won since to give the form a boost.

In the 6f handicap (14.55), Arlecchino’s Leap is very interesting now returned to the scene of his sole career success.

The Mark Usher trained gelding land a 5f contest at the venue last August when coming from off the pace to beat Designate a shade cosily by 1/2 a length off a mark of 63.

Arlecchino’s Leap is now able to race in this off just 1lb higher, having caught the eye on seasonal reappearance when fourth of 10 to Ghalib in a 6f contest at Kempton.

The three-year-old was held-up off the pace and given plenty to do by Liam Keniry, before making headway a furlong from home to be nearest at the finish and beaten 4 3/4 lengths.

It was a promising comeback under tender handling after 210 days on the , and Arlecchino’s Leap is sure to strip much fitter for the outing.

If the son of Kheleyf can build on that, then he looks weighted to take all the beating.
