Wolverhampton preview: Rich Again ready to rumble
David Metcalf | November 3, 2015
Rich Again has a terrific record at Wolverhampton, and can take advantage of a drop in the weights to further enhance it with victory in the 7f handicap on this evening’s card (17.10).
The James Bethell trained gelding is a five time winner at the track, and three of those successes have come over today’s trip.
Rich Again was last successful when landing a 6f contest at this venue back in January off a mark of 80, and has since been placed over course and distance off 83.
The six-year-old is now able to race off 75, 5lb lower than when last victorious, and that gives the son of Amadeus Wolf major claims from a handicapping perspective.
Rich Again also comes into the contest having shaped as if returning to form last time out at Chelmsford when staying on well after a slow start to finish a never nearer 2 3/4 length seventh of 10 to Nuno Tristan
The return the the Tapeta surface is a big plus, and Rich Again looks weighted to take all the beating if building on his latest effort.
Berlusca can beat Best Example
In the 1m 1f handicap (18.40), Berlusca looks a bit of value to turn over the red-hot favourite Best Example now reunited with jockey Danny Tudhope
The David O’Meara trained gelding is a six-time winner at the track, and three of those successes have come over this evening’s trip.
In the last of those back in January, Berlusca dead-heated off a mark of 82 when ridden by Tudhope before being awarded the race outright in the stewards’ room.
The six-year-old was then off the track for 134 days, and badly needed the run on return to action at Haydock in May.
Since then Berlusca has posted some really solid efforts, including when third of 13 to the well-treated Aleator over course and distance on his penultimate outing.
That run entitles Berlusca to plenty of respect in this line-up an,d having been partnered by inexperienced 7lb claimer Josh Doyle in his last five starts, the son of Holy Roman Emperor is now reunited with Tudhope for the first time since they were last successful.
17.10: Rich Again (NAP)
