Wolverhampton Preview: Solar can power to success
Trainer Marco Botti has a tremendous record with his runners at Wolverhampton, and Solar Deity can further enhance it with victory in the Download The Coral App Handicap there this evening (7.40).
The Newmarket handler has been successful with 25% of his runners at the Midlands’ venue in the past 12 months, and is also in good form at present having saddled three winners from his last nine runners.
In Solar Deity he has a horse with a touch of class and a terrific record on the synthetic surface.
The five-year-old has won six and been placed four times from 17 starts on the polytrack surface, and there is now reason to believe that he won’t be just as effective on the Tapeta.
The son of Exceed And Excel is also a three time winner at the venue, with the last of those successes coming in a decent class 2 handicap where he slammed Galician by 3 12/ lengths.
Solar Deity went on to run several solid races at the Dubai Carnival in Meydan and finished a cracking 2 1/4 length fourth of 12 to the classy Grandeur in the Coral Easter Classic at Lingfield when last seen in action.
That run came off an official rating of 107, and Solar Deity is able to run in this off 3lb lower.
It gives him every chance at the weights, and although Solar Deity has not raced for 202 days he has gone well fresh in the past.
The stable also struck with Grendisar at Kempton last night who was also returning to action after a lenghty lay-off, so there is no reason to believe that Solar Deity will be found wanting through lack of fitness.
In the Bet In Play At Coral Handicap that closes the card (8.10), Gleese The Devil looks to haev been found a nice opportunity to get off the mark.
The Richard Fahey trained gelding is a promising sort who has finished in the frame in his last three starts and comes into the contest on the back of a cracking effort at Windsor when runner-up to Rideonstar on handicap debut.
The son of Maduro has been raised 5lb for that, but the pair pulled 10 lengths clear of third to give the form a solid look and Gleese The Devil should be more than capable of winning races off his current mark of 75.
