Wolverhampton Preview: All systems go for Emirates Flyer

Emirates Flyer can make his class tell to overcome an absence and land the 1m 1f conditions’ contest at Wolverhampton this evening (7.20).

The Godolphin owned colt has not been seen in action for 194 days but has form in the book in top class contests which suggests he is going to be very hard to beat now eased in grade.

The son of Acclamation finished an excellent third in the Group 3 UAE 2000 Guineas back in February, and posted a cracking effort to finish third of 12 behind Toast Of New York in the Group UAE Derby at Meydan when last seen in action back in March.

That is very strong form which sets a a very standard in this grade, and with the Saeed Bin Suroor stable in good form it will be very disappointing if Emirates Flyer doesn’t take this as a nice confidence booster before going on to better things.

Lacey shaped as if coming back to form last time out and looks weighted to go well in the 2m 1f handicap (6.50).

The Andrew Hollinshead trained gelding kept on nicely to finish third of 13 to Alba Verde over course and distance 12 days ago, and is now just 1lb higher than when last successful at this venue in November 2013.

The son of Rail Link was ridden that day by Jack Duern, and he is now back in the saddle and able to claim a handy 5lb.

That makes Lacey attractively weighted if he can build on his latest effort in what doesn’t look the strongest of class 6 contests.

In the 1m 1f handicap (8.20), McBirney can go well at a big price having dropped to a career-low mark.

The Paul D’Arcy trained gelding was last successful over 1m 4f on the all-weather at Kempton last March when easily beating King Olav by 5 lengths off a mark of 69 in a class 5 contest.

The seven-year-old now gets into this class 6 affair off 6lbs lower , and that gives him a big shout at the weights.

Although disappointing last time out at Newmarket, the soft ground was against McBirney and the return to the artificial surface is likely to see him in a far better light.
