Wolverhampton Preview: Zac can zoom to success

Zac Brown disappointed last time out but can bounce back to winning ways in the 5f handicap at Wolverhampton today (4.10) now returned to the Tapeta surface.

The David Barron trained gelding could finish only fourth at Southwell, but was left poorly placed after a tardy start and didn’t seem to handle the fibresand.

Prior to that the four-year-old had looked a progressive sort and built up a solid profile on the all-weather surface.

Zac Brown showed a very smart turn of foot when quickening clear to beat Dissent by three lengths over 6f at this track back in November, and backed that up with a solid fourth before notching a very easy 3 1/4 length success over It Must Be Fath at Chelmsford City over today’s trip.

The son of Kodiac was held-up in mid division in the latter before making smooth headway to lead inside the last and win going away with any amount in hand.

Although now 10lb higher in the weights, the manner of that success suggested that Zac Brown was a sprinter going places and needed keeping firmly onside.

I will be surprised if Zac Brown is not capable of winning races off his current mark of 99, and with Graham Gibbons in the saddle he looks the one they all have to beat.
Pearl Ransom has been in terrific form of late and can take advantage of an ease in grade to land the 1m 1f handicap (3.40).

The Alan Bailey trained gelding won in good style over 7f at Lingfield back in December and has since posted two solid efforts to finish fourth at the venue.

In the last of those the five-year-old kep on well under pressure to finish a 1 3/4 length fourth of 11 to Franco’s Secret in a class 5 contest over a mile.

The third home Stormmbound has come out and won since to give the form a boost, and Pearl Ransom is able to get into this lower grade class 6 affair off an unchanged mark of 65.

That gives the son of Intikhab every chance from a handicapping perpsecctive in a race which lacks any real strength in depth.
