Yarmouth preview: Music can prove the Master

Music Master has some top class form to his name and looks a worthy favourite to take advantage of a drop in class and land the 6f feature contest on today’s card at Yarmouth (16.20).

The Henry Candy trained five-year-old developed into a very sort last season when showing progressive form to climb the sprinting ranks.

After easily landing a conditions’ contest at Windsor on his seasonal reappearance, Music Master went on to run a stormer at Royal Ascot when finishing a 2 3/4 length fourth of 14 to the brilliant Slade Power in the Group 1 Diamond Jubliee Stakes.

The son of Piccolo then got back on the winning trail in a Group 3 contest at Newbury, before rounding off the campaign with an excellent third of 17 to G Force in a Group 1 at Haydock.

Music Master was then off the track for 222 days before shaping really well on seasonal reappearance at Newmarket when a running on 1 3/4 length third of 11 to Astaire in the Group 3 Abernant Stakes.

He has since run a cracker to finish fourth in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and an excellent third in Listed contest at Deauville.

Music Master now takes a huge drop down into a conditions’ company, and this represents the easiest opportunity he has faced for a long time.

In the 1m handicap (2.50) Summer Icon is weighted to go well at a big price. The Mick Channon trained filly has only had four starts, and caught the eye on her second of those over 7f at Ascot when fifth to Marenko at Ascot.

Summer Icon raced keenly at the rear until keeping on from the furlong marker under tender handling to be beaten 7 1/4 lengths, and the winner is now rated 104 and finished runner-up in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster last week.

That is strong form in the context of this contest, and Summer Icon comes into it on the back of a highly promising handicap debut when a three length fifth of 11 to Time Warp at Sandown.

The winner has gone on to score twice since and is now rated 96, and the third and the seventh home have also gone on to taste success.

That gives the form a rock solid look and suggests Summer Icon is a big player in this off an unchanged mark of 72.
