York Preview: Pamona can turn tables on Zvezda
Pamona can turn the tables on Crystal Zvezda this evening and land the listed fillies’ stakes (7.30).
Racing over one mile two furlongs, Pamona can get back to winning ways and land this competitive listed contest. She was beaten fair and square by Crystal Zvezda in May, a rapidly improving horse but now it’s Pamona’s turn to demonstrate her improvement. There is officially 4lbs between the top two in the market with Pamona receiving 3lbs this evening. This does in effect leave Crystal Zvezda 1lb well-in but her run in the Oaks was far too bad to quantify and she may not be fully tuned up tonight.
Pamona put in a good run at Royal Ascot when third in the Ribblesdale and although that was over further, it demonstrates the level of improvement forthcoming in this horse. The once-raced French Dressing may be the biggest danger to Pamona who easily beat a fairly good looking field at Ascot in May. She could be anything and ranks as the main danger.
At the prices, Pamona offers value against two horses with question marks against their names. She put in a good performance last time out and dropping back in trip she should be able to take advantage and land this listed race.
In the 6.00, the opener on the York card, Talyani, can benefit from a 5lb claimer on board to win this. William Haggas’ three year-old has only raced twice so far in his career but he could have far more on offer this evening.
The form of her last run is very solid with the winner a clearly improving type and the second has since run well off marks in the low 80’s. An effective mark of 71 can see Talyani take advantage at the weights and land his second success in three starts.
